During the annual weeklong I AM FIRST celebration, the Kent State community demonstrated its ongoing commitment to first-generation student success through programs and events that span the eight-system campus. The week began with a session for instructors hosted by the Center for Teaching and Learning, followed by the I AM FIRST celebration – a celebration where students, staff, faculty and alumni were recognized for their courageous first-gen journeys. The week ended with special programs geared toward first-generation first-year Exploratory students and graduate students. Furthermore, areas across Kent State's eight-campus system facilitated weeklong programming to increase awareness and pride of the first-generation experience.

Kent State is supporting first-generation students by donating to the I AM FIRST scholarship fund during the Giving Tuesday campaign during the month of November. The donations will help reduce success barriers for first-generation students and help make graduation happen.
