Kay's three words that describe Kent State: not provided

TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A STUDENT AT KENT STATE!

I'm a Bachelor of Science in psychology major with a concentration in child psychology and a member of the Honors College. I also work as tour guide, a security guard at the Kent State Fashion Museum and as a research assistant in a psychology lab on campus.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE KENT STATE?

R1 research opportunities!

WHEN DID KENT STATE START TO FEEL LIKE HOME?

Clubs have been huge connection hubs for me! My favorite club the past three semesters has been Kent State Survivor, a college version ocompetition of the reality show. I have met so many people that I regularly see and hang out with during and outside of the academic year.

Kay and Tim Misny, famous Cleveland personal injury lawyer, standing together on a stage with blue curtains in the background. One person is wearing a dark pinstriped suit and pointing toward the camera, while the other is wearing a sleeveless top, denim shorts, glasses, and a headscarf, holding a water bottle and giving a thumbs‑up. A set of steps, wooden stage flooring, and a water bottle placed on the stage are visible.

WHAT'S A COOL LEARNING EXPERIENCE YOU'VE HAD?

I had the opportunity to travel to Panama through the McNair Scholars, which was really fun!

WHO HAS MADE YOUR COLLEGE EXPERIENCE SPECIAL?

Ms. Hagan Faye Whiteleather's Death and Dying Colloquium, part of the freshman honors colloquium, really resonated with me. She is also on my thesis defense committee.  I loved that class so much that I got a tattoo of the images from the syllabus. Dr. Phillip Hamrick has also been a huge support in my academic endeavors and has single-handedly supported me through all of the research opportunities I have been a part of.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY?

All of the connections I have made during my years here is something very special to me, and it's a bit shocking to realize that I will be moving away from here and those connections.

Four people sitting together indoors, leaning toward the camera and wearing themed or costume-style outfits. One person in the center wears a cowboy-style hat and plaid shirt and makes a playful hand gesture, while others wear dark clothing and hats. The group is seated against a light-colored wall with a glass railing visible, suggesting a public indoor venue.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS, POST-GRADUATION?

I want to have a job that requires a Ph.D. Being the first to obtain a degree of this level is important to me as the first in family to go to college. Ideally, I'd like to be in clinical neuropsychology, either working in private practice or in a hospital setting. One of the opportunities I’ve had at Kent is to write and defend a senior honors thesis, as well as being in the process to get published.

WHY SHOULD OTHER STUDENTS CHOOSE KENT STATE?

The faculty within the programs here have been very special to me and unbelievably supportive.
