Madeline's three words that describe Kent State: Community, Historic, Beautiful

TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A STUDENT AT KENT STATE!

I have had such an amazing experience at Kent State! I am a senior psychology and sociology student, and I have had the opportunity to work for some amazing organizations on campus, like the tour center and two of our psychology labs, the Psychology Club and Ocean Motion.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE KENT STATE?

I chose Kent State because of its psychology program and also because of the location. Kent being an R1 research school was very important to me because my original plan was to go into psychological research. Even though I have now switched paths a little bit, being able to work in our amazing psych labs has been a wonderful experience. I've worked with so many undergrad, graduate and even doctoral students and have heard about all of their experiences as well. The professors are also so knowledgeable and helpful as well. Originally from Toledo, I also chose Kent for the location and beauty of the campus and surrounding areas, including natural areas and parks. I love how different it is here.

WHEN DID KENT STATE START TO FEEL LIKE HOME?

Kent State started to feel like home for me when I added my sociology major. The community in that major, students and professors, is amazing.

WHAT'S A COOL LEARNING EXPERIENCE YOU'VE HAD?

I'm also an art history minor, so visiting the Cleveland Museum of Art with our art history professors was a cool experience as we listened to them lecture while actually looking at the paintings, sculptures, etc.

WHO HAS MADE YOUR COLLEGE EXPERIENCE SPECIAL?

Dr. Greg Gibson in the sociology department has been my main mentor, and I could not be more thankful for his help. He has met with me countless times and even helped me narrow down what I actually want to do for my career. Dr. Gibson is the most generous, thoughtful and giving professor on this campus, and he truly wants his students to succeed.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY?

Studying away in New York City with the art history majors. We went to the MET and MoMA, so cool!

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS, POST-GRADUATION?

My career goals have shifted a lot since starting college, but right now, I am set on being a clinical social worker. Kent State could not have been more helpful in preparing me to be successful. The classes in the sociology and psychology programs are all very interesting and have helped prepare me for graduate school. But really it was the professors that helped me, like Dr. Gibson. Every professor in my majors that I have had here at Kent has been more than generous and helpful throughout my entire undergraduate career and with applying to graduate school. They all truly care so much about their students and only want the best for us and that is evident.

WHY SHOULD OTHER STUDENTS CHOOSE KENT STATE?

You should choose Kent State because it is a truly amazing school with such a tight-knit community. We have so many great events to attend and clubs to join. We also have strong academics with many lab opportunities. There is something for every single person on this campus.
