Tips For Late Applicants

It’s officially 2022! We’ve been through a lot these past few years and you deserve applause for continuing to persevere.

As the new year begins, you may run into students who are panicking because they haven’t completed a college application, or filed the FAFSA yet. It’s okay! There have been many changes over the past couple of years, so the future may have been the last thing on their mind. Thankfully, there’s still time to become a Golden Flash.

Here are five application tips for your Future Flashes:

  • Feb. 1, 2022 is our final merit scholarship deadline, so there is still time to apply and be considered for scholarships!
  • We are test-optional again this year! If your students haven’t taken the ACT or SAT, or if you believe their scores are not a good representation of their academic ability, your students can apply without them. There are alternative pathways for selective major programs, scholarships and Honors College consideration.
  • Essays are not required. However, if a student wants to share more about their academic ability, important extracurricular activities, or ups and downs in their academic history, we want to know about it.
  • Financial aid packages start going out in late February. There is still time to file the FAFSA and determine any need-based aid. We encourage submitting this as soon as possible.
  • Be sure to check your email. We send email reminders to check for application portal for updates, notifications on what is missing from applications, and next steps with us at Kent State. Admission decision letters are emailed and mailed.

We are so happy that we’ve been able to meet with some of you face-to-face again, and we hope this continues. Building a relationship with you and your students is of the utmost importance to us. We know Golden Flashes go on to do great things, and we thank you for the vital part you play in their journey!
