José Salinas

Dr. Salinas is an accomplished educator and leader with more than 25 years of experience in supporting the educational success of migrant students. He holds a B.A. in Education and an M.A. in Educational Administration from The University of Findlay and earned his doctorate in Leadership Studies from Bowling Green State University. His doctoral research, "Educational Experiences of Children in the Migrant Stream: Ecological Factors Necessary for Academic Success," was awarded Distinguished Dissertation Honors by BGSU's College of Education in 2007.
The Director of the Ohio Migrant Education Center (OMEC), Dr. Salinas works with school districts statewide to provide guidance on challenges faced by migrant students, including educational disruptions, language barriers, and health disparities. A native of Texas and the child of farm workers, Dr. Salinas leverages his personal history and professional expertise to ensure that OMEC provides schools with solutions that are both practical and culturally relevant to the unique needs to migrant students and their families.
During his residency, Dr. Salinas led us through impactful events, including the screening of the film, Harvest of Shame, followed by a panel discussion. He engaged with students in classrooms across the university and hosted networking luncheons where he met with numerous faculty to explore possibilities for future research collaborations.
