Biological Sciences Faculty Receive URC Research Seed Grants
The University Research Council (URC) reviewed over 80 proposals for the 2017 Research Seed Grant Program. After a peer review process via five faculty panels in a variety of disciplines, the URC awarded eight grants of up to $10,000 each in May, 2017 to enable faculty PI's to generate preliminary results in new research endeavors, in order to develop competitive proposals for external grants.
Two of the awardees are faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences:
- Helen Piontkivska (Biology) "Role of RNA? Editing in neurological defects in ZIKV (Zika) infections."
- Matthew S. Lehnert (Biology, Stark campus), Qi-Huo Wei (Chemical Physics/LCI), "Lepidopteran Proboscis Microarchitectures, Physical Properties, and Mechanisms Adapted for the Uptake of Newtonian and non-Newtonian Fluids."
