Portage and Cuyahoga Counties Move to ‘High’ COVID-19 Community Levels

Dear Kent State University Students, Faculty and Staff,

Portage and Cuyahoga counties, where Kent State’s Kent Campus, College of Podiatric Medicine, Cleveland Foot and Ankle Clinic and Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative are located, recently moved into the “high” community level designation for COVID-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In addition, Trumbull County, where Kent State’s Trumbull Campus is located, remains at a “high” community level designation.

As a result, face coverings are now required indoors at these locations:

  • The Kent Campus
  • The College of Podiatric Medicine
  • The Cleveland Foot and Ankle Clinic
  • The Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative
  • The Trumbull Campus

Masks are not required while working alone in an enclosed space, such as a private office or lab.

As we previously informed our university community, we are following CDC recommendations for counties at “high,” “medium” or “low” community levels when making determinations for safety precautions on our campuses.

In counties at a “high” community level designation, the CDC recommends:

  • Wear a mask indoors in public.
  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Get tested if you show any virus symptoms.
  • Those at high risk for severe illness may want to take additional safety precautions.

Additionally, Ashtabula, Columbiana, Geauga, Summit and Tuscarawas counties, where Kent State has numerous campuses and locations, are now all at “medium” community level for COVID-19. We will continue to monitor COVID-19 levels in all the counties where we have campuses or locations and will adjust our requirements and recommendations according to CDC guidelines.

Kent State will always make the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff our top priority as we strive to provide a healthy and safe environment for all to live, learn and work.
