Return to Campus Guidelines for Employees

Dear Kent State University Faculty and Staff,

Kent State is preparing for a safe return to on-campus operations. Consistent with the latest guidance from local, state and federal government agencies as well as our own public health experts, the university has developed protocols and requirements for employees to help prepare for returning to campuses.

Whether you are currently on campus or returning during our phased plans to reopen, all Kent State community members are required to adhere to the Flashes Safe Seven principles to ensure the safety of our community. A Return to Campus Checklist for Employees has been developed to guide your preparations for returning to campus. All employees are required to follow the safety measures outlined in the checklist and will be asked to submit a signed checklist before returning to campus.

As part of our preparation for return, supervisors will complete an assessment of their workspaces to determine plans for proper physical distancing and safety practices. Supervisors are required to complete the Return to Campus Checklist for Supervisors to determine if modifications to workspaces are necessary to create a safe work environment. This assessment may include changing traffic patterns, modifying staff schedules and ordering cleaning supplies.

Appropriate facial coverings play a crucial role in containing the transmission of the coronavirus. All individuals must wear a facial covering while on campuses. A significant portion of individuals with the virus lack symptoms, and infected individuals who do develop symptoms can transmit the virus before showing these symptoms. This means that the virus can spread between people in close proximity even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms. The university will provide each employee with two facial coverings as well as cleaning supplies for each unit. Information for determining quantities, ordering and delivery may be found in the Faculty and Staff FAQ section of our coronavirus website. Please coordinate the requests for these materials with the person responsible for ordering in your department or campus, who will order on behalf of your area. The university will centrally fund the purchasing of facial coverings and cleaning products for faculty, staff and student employees. Your department and/or campus will not incur a cost for these materials.

Additional details about the university’s reopening plans may be found at

We are all responsible for the protection of our community. Each of us must follow the established safety measures without fail to guarantee a healthy, active environment. Like our greatest rival, let’s come together as Golden Flashes do and beat this foe. True to the words in our fight song, “Fight on for victory/Don’t stop until we’re through/We’re all together/Let’s go forward, K-S-U!”
