What were some highlights of your first year? Were there offices or specific individuals that helped you during your transition?
My first year at KSU was a whirlwind of events all adding to a great year of college! When I first came to college, I didn't have any friends and I was about 8.5 hours away from home. At Destination Kent State, I knew that I was going to have to step outside of my comfort zone and make a friend so that I could enjoy my time more. I gathered up the courage to approach a girl who was also alone and I introduced myself; we're still best friends to this day! From her I met a large majority of the people I call friends today, and it has helped to make life in college feel more at home and enjoyable. I was also greatly helped by the library throughout my first year. I used the library to study on multiple occasions, to print things out for classes, and most importantly Starbucks! I'm mostly joking, but the library is a great resource for people who want to learn more about campus by asking the front desk, or for people like me who need studying, printing and Starbucks. During my first year I worked in the Architecture building at a little cafe called the George T. Simon I Cafe, or Simone Cafe for short. Having a job as well as taking 18 credit hours was difficult to do as a freshman, but it wasn't impossible. Having a job taught me how to manage my time as well as meet a more diverse group of students that I would not have met otherwise!
