What were some highlights of your first year? Were there offices or specific individuals that helped you during your transition?
My first moments at KSU started out rocky. I came from a very small high school and I was worried about meeting new people and missing home. However, when I attended my First Year Experience class I knew that I had made the right choice coming to Kent State. My Student Success Leaders made me feel right at home and I realized that everyone else in my class was feeling the same way. Every week for that first semester, I looked forward to my First Year Experience class. While my First Year Experience class made me feel at home, my connections with faculty members really put my mind at ease about my future. At the beginning of freshman year, I was prematurely stressed about getting into grad school and what I was going to do with my life. I met with one of the speech pathology faculty members, Dr. Audet, and she was really able to put me at ease and helped me to focus on one goal at a time. I ended up joining her lab during the spring of freshman year and I can still say that this was one of the best decisions I made in my college career.
