Drawings by Kent State alumnus Lawrence Baker will be on view at the KSU Downtown Gallery from Oct. 16 through Nov. 20, 2019.  Baker earned his BFA, MA and MFA from Kent State's School of Art in painting and drawing.  He currently lives in Cleveland, Ohio and is a retired visual arts instructor for the Cleveland Municipal School District. An opening reception will take place on Friday, Oct. 18 from 5-7 p.m.  Both the reception and the exhibition are free and open to the public.

The School of Art is celebrating 50 years of our glass program with exhibitions and special artist and curator talks. Curator talk with Davin Ebanks (MFA alumnus and head of the Glass program at Kent State) and Benjamin Johnson (BFA alumnus and head of the Glass program at the Cleveland Institute of Art) will take place on Saturday, September 21 at 12:30 p.m. for the “Kent State Glass@50” exhibition in the CVA Gallery. This will take place during campus Homecoming celebrations and is free and open to the public at Center for the Visual Arts, 325 Terrace Dr., Kent, Ohio

The School of Art presents an artist talk with glass artists Marc Petrovic and Kari Russell-Pool on Friday, September 13 from 12-1 p.m. in room 165 at the Center for the Visual Arts. Both artists are featured in the national curated exhibition Kent State Glass@50, on view in the CVA Gallery. The talk will center around both their individual and collaborative practices. This event is free and open to the public.

Emerging Glass is a new national juried exhibition organized in honor of the 50th anniversary of Kent State University's School of Art studio glass program. The exhibition, featuring sixteen glass artists, was juried by Davin Ebanks and Lisa Demagall out of 164 submissions from around the country. This exhibition is a part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the founding of the glass program at Kent State University's School of Art.

Henry Halem: The History of Kent State’s Glass Program

The School of Art is celebrating 50 years of its glass program with exhibitions and lectures this September. The program, one of the first of its kind in the country, was started in 1969 by Henry Halem, professor emeritus and co-founder of the Glass Art Society. A special lecture by Henry Halem about the history of the Kent State glass program and its beginnings will take place on Friday, September 6, 12-1 p.m., Center for the Visual Arts, Room 165. Free and open to the public.

Remembering Christine Gorbach: A Teaching Artist

Join us in celebrating the life and artwork of Christine Gorbach. Ms. Gorbach was an accomplished artist and art educator who passed away in 2018.  The exhibition “Remembering Christine Gorbach: A Teaching Artist” will be on view at the Payto Gallery located on the first floor at the Center for the Visual Arts from July 17-26, 2019. An opening reception will take place on Friday, July 19 from 6-8 p.m.  Both the reception and the exhibition are free and open to the public.
