Join us for a special Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event in conjunction with the exhibition The View From Here: Contemporary Perspectives From Senegal.  This panel discussion titled “Mobility, Migration, and Movement: Contemporary Diasporas on Displacement” features Talise A. Campbell (Djapo Cultural Arts Institute), Sylvie Coulibaly (Kenyon College), Lindsey Phillips (World Relief in Akron), and Joseph Underwood (Kent State University). It will be moderated by Kent State alumna, Abby Hermosilla (School of the Art Institute of Chicago).

The Kent State University School of Art Collection and Galleries presents “Folds, Gestures, Movement” by Jenniffer Omaitz. This solo exhibition includes paintings by Omaitz that were created from 2015-2018 and will be on view at the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center from December 7, 2018 through March 30, 2019.  An opening reception will take place on Friday, December 7 from 5-8 p.m. during the First Friday Art Walk in downtown Kent.

This solo exhibition is a collection of recent prints created by Bukowski and will be on view at the KSU Downtown Gallery from December 5, 2018 through January 12, 2019. The Kent State University School of Art Collection and Galleries presents Jewelry and Gender: Challenging the Norms at the KSU Downtown Gallery from November 2 through December 1, 2018.  The exhibition, curated by Roza Maille, looks at art jewelry through the lens of gender, displayed alongside photographs of local LGBTQ+ youth, serving as models.  Quotes from model interviews about their own gender expressions and identities will be included in the display, giving the viewer perspective on the spectrum of gender identities that exist, as opposed to the male/female binary.

The School of Art Collection and Galleries and the School of Art at Kent State University present Biennial Faculty Show, on view at the CVA Gallery from October 16 through November 16, 2018.  An opening reception with the artists will take place at the Center for the Visual Arts (325 Terrace Dr. Kent, Ohio) on Friday, October 19 from 5-7 p.m.  Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.

The School of Art Collection and Galleries present “Buoyancy,” a solo exhibition of sculpture and works on paper by Isabel Farnsworth.  Farnsworth’s large-scale sculptures, made of steel, wood and burlap will be displayed alongside mixed media (mono-print and gouache) two-dimensional works that were created in Florence, Italy this past spring. The exhibition will be on view from July 30 – September 8, 2018 with an opening reception on Friday, August 3 from 5-8 p.m.  The KSU Downtown Gallery is located at 141 E. Main St. in Kent, Ohio. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday 9:30 a.m.
