The Kent State University School of Art Collection and Galleries and the Wick Poetry Center present: Home to Sargasso Sea: A long journey of loving collaboration, Paintings and Poetry by Jessica Damen & Maj Ragain. The exhibition will be on view at the KSU Downtown Gallery from June 1 - July 14, 2018. There will be a reception on Friday, June 1 during the new First Friday Art Walk in downtown Kent from 5-8 p.m. with a gallery talk and special remarks at 7 p.m.

Join us for the Foundations program's spring show awards and reception on Thursday, May 3 from 5-7 p.m. at the CVA Gallery, located on the first floor of the Center for the Visual Arts. The Foundations Program is a series of courses that reveal the underlying visual rules and artistic strategies that run throughout all of our School's majors. Foundations projects are often faster paced, unpredictable, and are not specific to a particular material or process.

Join us for the second annual BFA Thesis Exhibition opening reception on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Eighteen senior B.F.A. candidates will be displaying their artwork throughout the entire building at the Center for the Visual Arts. The exhibit will be on view from April 16 – 27, 2018. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

You are invited to the Kent State College of the Arts annual University-wide juried art show, "Stratosphere." A group art exhibition of work of 27 finalists will be on display at the School of Art's Downtown Gallery (141 East Main Street) with an opening reception on Thursday, April 19 from 5-7 p.m. The show will be on view through May 5, 2018. This year's juror is Deirdre Murphy. She will give a lecture on Friday, April 20 at 12 p.m. entitled: "The Longer You Look, The More You See."

The reception for four students in the second week will be held on Thursday, April 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the CVA Gallery. Exhibiting M.F.A. candidates for the second week include Sarah McMahon (textiles), Jasmine Kornel (textiles), Aaron Maas (sculpture) and Kit Palencar (painting). Free and open to the public.

Symbiosis: Fashion and Art integrates fashion design and print media in a collection of garments and artworks. The motivation for the project is to integrate two artistic fields that often use similar tools, studio environments, and design skills, but ultimately create distinctive outcomes with different audiences. Effective collaborations between fashion and print media can motivate students to transfer their ideas between the two dimensional art pieces and three dimensional wearable garments.

The School of Art Collection and Galleries at Kent State University presents “The Student Annual” from March 1 – March 16, 2018 at the CVA Gallery. This year’s juror is former Chief Curator at the Akron Art Museum, Janice Driesbach. Driesbach will choose a selection of undergraduate and graduate artwork to display at the School of Art’s main gallery and select several awards for outstanding submissions. The opening reception and award ceremony will be held on Thursday, March 1 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Both the exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
