The Write Place
The Graduate College is offering the Write Place every Wednesday and Saturday. Join your fellow graduate students for weekly writing accountability groups. The sessions will be held from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Wednesdays in University Library 314 and 2-5 p.m. via Microsoft Teams on Saturdays. In collaboration with the Writing Commons, a Graduate Writing Consultant will be present during every session to assist students as needed. Students are welcome to join whenever they are able!
Graduate Career Peer Drop-In Hours

In partnership with Career Exploration and Development, we are excited to offer Graduate Career Peer Drop-in sessions. These sessions are a way for you to get help with quick questions about programs and careers, resume and cover letter critiques, accessing and navigating Handshake, increasing your networking skills, learning interviewing tips, and more!
Sessions will be offered on Tuesdays in University Library 314 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Join us as your schedule allows and know we are here to help you with all of your career needs!
Each drop-in visit will typically last about 10-15 minutes. You are welcome and encouraged to attend multiple drop-in sessions throughout the semester.
Teaching Philosophy Workshop
A teaching philosophy statement is an essential part of academic job applications. The document allows you to reflect on your own teaching and what you value most as an instructor. Join us for an interactive workshop Tuesday, September 12 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
Three Minute Thesis
Put your academic, presentation, and research communication skills to the test by presenting your research in three minutes to an intelligent, but non-specialist audience. Join us for the ninth annual Three Minute Thesis Competition! The competition will be held in two preliminary rounds on Tuesday, September 26 and Wednesday, September 27 from 12-2 p.m. in Kent Student Center 310. Top presenters from each round will advance to the 3MT finals on Tuesday, October 3 at 12 p.m. in the Kiva. visit the Graduate College website. Registration will be open until September 19 at 11:59 p.m.
Additionally, LaunchNET in collaboration with the Graduate College, will be hosting drop-in feedback sessions on Wednesday, September 13 from 12-1 p.m. and Tuesday, September 19 from 2-3 p.m. Both sessions will be hosted in University Library 352. The Graduate College is bringing domestic and international graduate students together for opportunities to connect with one another over games, intercultural dialogues, and opportunities to build community and friendship. Join us for our first Intercultural Graduate Student Connection event of the year on Thursday, September 14 from 5-6 p.m. in University Library 352.
Mental Health Series for Graduate Students

In collaboration with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), we are offering a Mental Health Series specifically for graduate students. The first session on Wednesday, September 20 from 12-1 p.m. focuses on building better relationships. You can join the workshop via Microsoft Teams.
Parents and Family Weekend Open House
In honor of Parents and Families Appreciation Weekend, we are hosting an Open House event on Friday, September 29 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in University Library 314. Stop by our suite! For more information about the weekend, visit the Division of Student Life website.

First Year Cohort
The cohorts will meet once per month with their peer leader to check-in, discuss tips and tricks for navigating graduate student life, and build community. Sign up for a cohort today!
Graduate College Student Associate

The Graduate College is looking for a student associate who will serve as administrative and event support during the Fall 2023 semester. Employees must be enrolled at Kent State University in an undergraduate or graduate degree-seeking program. This position would begin immediately and conclude the week of December 15, 2023. A typical work week would include 10-15 hours at $12 an hour. Interested parties should submit a resume and cover letter highlighting experience that matches job and skill descriptions. Materials should be uploaded to Handshake (Job 8200957). Candidates will be contacted by staff to set up interviews.
Graduate Student Teaching Award

The Kent State University Graduate College Graduate Student Teaching Award highlights excellence in teaching and mentoring among current graduate students. The award recognizes graduate students who exemplify excellence in teaching/learning as part of their professional development and training. Each year, one award will be given to a doctoral student and one to a master's student. graduatecollege@kent.edu. Additional information about this award can be found on the Graduate College website. Flashes Food Pantry

Reimagining the Academy

Registration is now open for Reimagining the Academy, a new collaborative conference co-sponsored by Kent State University, Miami University and Ohio University. Reimagining the Academy will feature workshops, oral sessions, roundtables and panel discussions focusing on anti-racism, diversity leadership and building community. You can register for the conference here.
Family Friendly Study Hours

Study while your kids play, read books, or join in a lesson led by a Kent State student volunteer. Most Tuesdays from 2-5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 4-7 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters on the 6th floor of the Library. Please RSVP at least 24 hours in advance.
Mindfulness and Medication Classes

If you are interested in learning mindfulness and meditation techniques, this is for you! Classes are taught by Kent State University faculty and staff and they are free for all students, faculty, and staff. This Fall classes will be offered during the following times:
- Wednesdays, September 6-27, 9:30-10:45 a.m. in 222 Lowry Hall
- Thursdays, Octover 12-November 2, 3:45-5 p.m., SRWC Seminar Room 5
- Mondays, October 23-November 13, 3:30-4:45 p.m. in SRWC Studio 1
Ohio Latino Affairs Summit

The 2023 Ohio Latino Affairs Summit, hosted by the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission and Kent State University, will take place from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Friday, September 15. The Summit will be held at the university’s Kent Campus. Attendance is free, but registration is required.
This marks the first year that the education, healthcare, and business/workforce development summits are hosted in person in a single summit. The Ohio Latino Affairs Summit will bring educators, legislators, state and local communities, businesses and organizations, students, and other stakeholders together to discuss issues affecting the Hispanic and Latino communities and how best to support them. In-person and virtual sessions will address this year’s theme, “¡Juntos! Latino Growth Is Ohio Growth.”
