I AM FIRST is a university-wide week-long celebration recognizing first-generation college students, staff, and faculty who are or will be first in their family to graduate with a four-year college degree. In 2017, the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the Center for First-generation Student Success launched the inaugural First-Generation College Celebration. College and Universities across the nation developed creative and meaningful ways to honor the courageous and persistent journeys of first-generation students.

Here at Kent State, there are several offices and resources dedicated to supporting first-generation students. Some of those resources include but are not limited to:

  • Student Support Services
  • Academic Diversity Outreach
  • Scholarships
  • Tutoring
  • Mentorship and more!
