On March 12, a delegation led by Rwanda's Minister of Health, Sabin Nsanzimana, M.D., Ph.D., visited Kent State and met with administrators including Marcello Fantoni, Ph.D., vice president, Office of Global Education, Pacifique Niyonzima, program manager sub-Saharan Africa, and a group of Kent State students from Rwanda.
Nsanzimana is a physician and epidemiologist. His work in Rwanda focuses on health sector improvements, including HIV/hepatitis programs and pandemic preparedness. The delegation met with representatives from Kent State and Northeast Ohio Medical University to explore academic and research collaboration. Earlier in the day, the Rwandan officials met with top administrators at the Cleveland Clinic.
There are currently 63 students from Rwanda enrolled at Kent State. Rwanda is the featured country in March's Cultural Cafe on Mar. 25, noon to 1:30 in the Kent Student Center Ballroom Balcony. Rwandan students will present information about their county's history and culture and offer Rwandan cuisine. Monthly Cultural Cafes, sponsored by Kent State's Office of Global Education, are free and all are welcome to attend.
