TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A STUDENT AT KENT STATE!
Coming to Kent State University was a totally different experience than I am used to. However, the transition to fitting in was very quick. The first weekend at Kent State, I attended Blastoff where I went around to learn more about the student organizations that I could join.
In addition, attending sports events and the Flashes Activity Board events allowed me to meet new people and empowered my feeling of belonging. I have made life-long friends and am able to have the Kent State experience outside of the classroom. The College of Nursing also does a detailed job of preparing future nurses with great professors that want students to become successful.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE KENT STATE?
The community at Kent State is very welcoming. There are resources available to all students for whatever they need.
The College of Nursing also was a reason why I picked Kent State. The nursing program here is one of the biggest in Northeast Ohio with a 98% passing NCLEX rate. The location was also convenient as the University is only an hour from home.
I enjoy how the campus is close to downtown Kent, which includes many restaurants and boutiques and makes it a great spot for students to go on the weekends or afternoons.
WHEN DID KENT STATE START TO FEEL LIKE HOME?
Kent State felt like home from the first weekend with all the events that were going on and Blastoff. When they first come to Kent State, may students will introduce themselves and add each other on social media. That helped build relationships! In addition, learning about the resources at Kent State made me feel comfortable to reach out when I needed to. The professors and advisors in the College of Nursing are very willing to help you be successful!
WHAT'S A COOL LEARNING EXPERIENCE YOU'VE HAD?
I had a unique learning experience during my clinical rotations. I love observing different units and nursing assessments. I really enjoy talking to my assigned patients and learning what it means to be a nurse.
Outside of the College of Nursing, the events from the Flashes Activity Board and sports where they were very memorable and continue to attend to this day!
WHO HAS MADE YOUR COLLEGE EXPERIENCE SPECIAL?
My academic advisor, Melissa, has made my college experience special. She was always there to listen to what I had to say about nursing classes and offered great guidance on choosing classes for future semesters. My friends also made the college experience special as they are like a second family to me.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY?
My favorite memories are of all the different people I have met!
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS, POST-GRADUATION?
My career goals are to work either in an Emergency Room or Labor and Delivery. Coming into college, I was unsure of what specialty I wanted to work in. Kent State provides classes covering medical surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, critical care, psychology and community. They also offer lab time to practice clinical skills. Each clinical site has about eight students, so there is available time for one on one time with the clinical instructor.
The College of Nursing prepares students to take the NCLEX with the use of Kaplan and a class that students take their senior year. The College also offers career fairs and internship!
WHY SHOULD OTHER STUDENTS CHOOSE KENT STATE?
The community and the different opportunities Kent State has to offer. There is always something for someone to join and learn, so they can find what they may be interested in and be successful.
