TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A STUDENT AT KENT STATE!
My name is Meara. I'm a double major in business management and marketing. Outside of class, I'm a member of the Ski Club and part of the Kent State Ice Hockey social media team. Ski Club is the best thing that has ever happened to me; they are like my second family and all of my best friends. I've also met some of my best friends as a tour guide in the campus tour center. I became a tour guide because I love Kent State so much and wanted to share my experience with prospective students. I have found my second family here, and I couldn’t imagine my life without Kent State.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE KENT STATE?
I chose Kent State because it made the most sense for me. I didn’t have a dream school, so I decided on KSU because it made the most sense for my major, credit earned through College Credit Plus and financially. When I got here that I knew this was the place for me. It's close enough to home where I can easily drive home and see family but still feels like being away at school.
WHEN DID KENT STATE START TO FEEL LIKE HOME?
I started feeling at home immediately after Blastoff. Here, I met all of my friends in Ski Club, and they have mentored me and showed me the ropes of college life. They became my second family very quickly and made me feel right at home.
WHAT'S A COOL LEARNING EXPERIENCE YOU'VE HAD?
I hold the social media position on the Ski Club executive board. Running the Kent State Ski Club Instagram has been an unreal learning experience. I've learned how to create all different forms of content and manage an account that has reached over 350,000 people. I believe this will catch some employers' attention.
WHO HAS MADE YOUR COLLEGE EXPERIENCE SPECIAL?
Shawn Wilson in the campus tour center has helped make my Kent State experience special. I jokingly call him my Kent State dad. No matter what, he gives the best advice, life lessons and dad jokes. No matter the situation, I know he'll always be there for me.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY?
Having a bonfire in the Ski Club backyard and hanging out with all my friends and laughing till our stomachs hurt.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS, POST-GRADUATION?
My career goal is to work on a social media team for a sports team. Kent State has prepared me for this, with all of my marketing and business management classes, as well as networking opportunities. Also, my internship through the hockey team has been an amazing learning experience and has helped connect me to future jobs and internships.
WHY SHOULD OTHER STUDENTS CHOOSE KENT STATE?
It’s a big campus with a small-town feel. There are so many new people to meet, but you will also see the same people all the time. This might be one of the only times in your life where you are surrounded by this many people your age, so take advantage of it and make as many connections as you can.
