TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A STUDENT AT KENT STATE!
I am a Theatre Design, Technology and Production major with a concentration in Technical Direction. I have loved every second of my time here at Kent State and love the opportunities I get to work on our theatrical productions. I've worked on every single show we produced this past year!
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE KENT STATE?
Being from Florida, I chose Kent State because I wanted to make a big change. Plus, I received more in scholarships from Kent State than from any other school.
WHEN DID KENT STATE START TO FEEL LIKE HOME?
Kent State feels more like home every day that I'm here. The environment is so welcoming and the people on campus are nice and love to talk to each other! Going to all the different events held by our organizations is one of the best ways to build communities of your own.
WHAT'S A COOL LEARNING EXPERIENCE YOU'VE HAD?
I had the opportunity to work with multiple theatres outside of Kent State, where I learned the ins and outs of how they run things and how they work. I found that very helpful for the future.
WHO HAS MADE YOUR COLLEGE EXPERIENCE SPECIAL?
Jason Gates, the scene shop supervisor, has made my experience here truly memorable. We've had multiple life talks, he's taught me things around the shop and he's willing to work with me and my peers. This has made him not only someone that I love working with, but someone I look up to and want to be more like!
Having connections at Kent State it makes it very easy to reach out to others for positions and other opportunities off-campus.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY?
It's tough to choose a favorite memory because there are too many people I've had memories with! But I got to make all of these good memories because I got my position at the scene shop!
IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN TIME, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOURSELF BEFORE STARTING COLLEGE?
Take your time! The classes you take, the people you meet, and the area around you will come and go fast, so please embrace what you have while you have it. You never know what can change!
WHY SHOULD OTHER STUDENTS CHOOSE KENT STATE?
Not only is it beautiful with that big campus feel while not having too many students, it's also one of the most welcoming and supportive communities you can be part of. Every person here wants to be here and loves what they do and that can be very inspiring!
