Meet Emily Erb, a Mary Ann Stephens & John R. Graham Award for Excellence in Graduate Research & Scholarship recipient. Emily is a Health Sciences Ph.D. student studying Exercise Physiology.

Please give a short overview of your research.

My research examines the impact of resistance exercise on blood flow, and how collectively this alters cognition.

What made you choose to pursue your graduate degree here at Kent State?

The Exercise Physiology program at Kent State offered an atmosphere of collaboration and support. I appreciated how the professors within the program valued their students, and how they allowed students to study what sparked their interests.

What do you enjoy most about attending Kent State for graduate school? and/or What do you anticipate taking advantage of at KSU?

I enjoyed working with other students on research projects. I gained a lot of insight and knowledge from my collegues, and we developed meaningful friendships.

What are your future goals?

My future goals are to become a professor and obtain a position that allows me to both teach and conduct research.

What does this award mean to you and how will it aid you?

This award is invaluable to me. Not only will it provide time for me to solely focus on writing my dissertation and preparing manuscripts for publication, it also provides me time to learn new laboratory techniques prior to graduation. This award gives me confidence to accomplish, and encouragement to continue pursuing, my goals. I'm honored to have been chosen and am deeply grateful for this opportunity.
