When should I contact SPIN?

When should I contact the Department of Recreation and Wellness Services?
 
  • When there is an issue related to a campus department/building.
  • After you have tried to contact SPIN.

How do I ensure I am riding safely?
Are helmets required?
  • Helmets are not required, but are strongly encouraged.  
  • Everyone is able to order a free helmet after taking the safety quiz in the App. 
How old do I have to be to ride a device?
  • Riders must be at least 18 years of age.
Can two people ride on a scooter or bike at the same time?
  • No, only one person can ride on a device at a time.
Can I rent a device for another person?
  • No, you can only rent a device for yourself.
Can I rent more than one device at a time?
  • No, you can only rent one device at a time.
Where can I ride a device?
  • There is a designated ride zone/service area distinguishable in the App.  
  • There are parking zones, slow ride zones, and no rides zones also designated within the service area.
What happens if I ride into a slow ride zone?
  • The device will slow down gradually to a speed within the slow ride limit.
What happens if I leave the designated riding zone and ride into a no ride zone?
  • The device will beep and slow down to a stop.  
  • The device will continue to beep until it is brought back into the service area
Why is the device shut off?
  • Devices are deactivated during curfew hours (12 a.m. - 5 a.m.)
  • Devices are deactivated during inclement weather, holidays and other special dates to be announced.
How do I end my ride and park?
 
  • Kent  State University and the City of Kent have designated parking zones where the devices can only be parked.
  • Please find a designated parking zone in the App.  
  • Once in a parking area, end your ride in the App.
  • Take a picture of your properly paired device.  
  • Leave it standing up neatly in the parking area.  
  • Do not block sidewalks, building entrances, bus stops, benches, etc. 
How do I get free ride credits?

 

  • Take the safety quiz and get a 100% to get a free $5 credit.  
  • Refer a friend and both of you will get a $5 credit.
  • Watch for special promotions from SPIN.
What happens if I break a rule implemented by SPIN, KSU, or the City of Kent in using the devices?
  • SPIN and/or KSU will contact you and will levy varying consequences depending on the infraction, including but not limited to:
    • a warning
    • a suspension from the program 
    • a fine
    • termination from the program
    • citations through the local police department
    • involvement with the Kent State University Office of Student Conduct as necessary.
