WHY DID YOU CHOOSE KENT STATE?

I chose Kent State because of the community and environment that were presented when I toured campus. I was also supported by the administration within my college in making sure I was confident in my major and program. I really enjoyed the tour I took, and my dad even said, “This seems like the right place for you.” The admissions team did so much to provide information and set expectations that I was sure Kent State was where I wanted to go by decision day.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A STUDENT AT KENT STATE!

My experience as a KSU student has exceeded my expectations. In high school, I tended to keep to myself and planned on just getting through college by doing the bare minimum. I am forever grateful that I chose to go beyond the bare minimum and be involved on this campus and in this community. I have taken on numerous leadership positions here and have met people I hope are my lifelong friends. I have also valued my academics here and have connected with my professors more than I would have thought, and I cannot stress how knowledgeable and supportive the professors are at Kent State.

My experience here has made me a better student, but most importantly to me, a more well-rounded person.

A POPULAR SLOGAN AT KENT STATE IS "YOU BELONG HERE." WHAT DOES THAT MEAN TO YOU?

For me, as a first-generation student, the resources and support at Kent State have shown me that I belong here, and this community will ensure I continue to feel that way. There are so many opportunities and resources available that can reach just about every student, and it shows that this university wants you here, but it also wants you to thrive and feel appreciated. I had never truly understood what a sense of belonging was until I came to Kent State and felt valued in a supportive community.

HOW DID FINANCIAL AID IMPACT YOUR DECISION TO ATTEND KENT STATE?

As a first-generation student, financial aid was something that was really tricky to navigate for my family and me, but Kent State really aimed to make it as clear and simple as possible. Some of the aid and scholarships available to me as an incoming student, along with the transparency that was always provided, were important factors in my decision to come to Kent State.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS, POST-GRADUATION?

Once I graduate from Kent State, I plan to begin my teaching career in a middle or high school. Long term, one of my goals is to go to grad school to earn my master’s degree, which will support my journey toward getting my principal’s license and working toward becoming a principal or holding another administrative position at a school.
