Posted Sep, 27, 2012Join us on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 12:30 PM in welcoming back Dr. Aponte as he speaks with the audience about healthcare disparities in the U.S. He will focus on the problems diverse people (including Latinos/as) experience when receiving healthcare as a result of low economic status, poor living conditions, language, accent, etc.... Also, Dr. Aponte will focus on how race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, color, and addictions can become an obstacle if the provider or patient has a bias that may hinder proper diagnosis or proper sharing of information. Additionally, our guest speaker will discuss the lack of training medical providers have in cultural competency and the barriers that can develop in patient care.
