Upward Bound Programs to Host Banquet on May 22Posted May, 18, 2010
The Kent State University Upward Bound Programs will host the Senior Scholarship Banquet on Saturday, May 22, at the Kent State University Ballroom from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The Senior Scholarship Banquet recognizes nearly 50 graduating high school seniors who have successfully participated and completed the Upward Bound TRIO Programs’ experience. Kent State hosts three federal Upward Bound TRIO grants – the Upward Bound Classic program serving the areas of Akron Buchtel, Barberton and Warren; the Upward Bound PREP Academy serving the areas of Ravenna and Lorain; and the Upward Bound Math/Science Center serving the area of Canton.
The event will include a keynote address from Akron Municipal Judge Annalisa Stubbs-Williams, a Kent State Upward Bound Classic graduate. The event also will include the awarding of the Kent State University Upward Bound scholarships. The event is coordinated by the Kent State Upward Bound Programs and parents from all three programs who volunteer time and resources to form the Parent Advisory Council (PAC), fundraising scholarship dollars and gifts for the graduating seniors.
Kent State leaders and staff, high school administrators, community members and other supporters are invited. The cost to attend is $10 per person with proceeds benefiting the Parent Advisory Council scholarship. Tables are available for purchase for $100. Graduating seniors will be recognized for their achievements and success as participants in the TRIO Upward Bound Programs. Many of these students are the first in their families to go to college and have obtained full ride academic and athletic scholarships.
