Summer 2010 Commencement Ceremonies - Watch On Demand

Summer 2010 Commencement Ceremonies at Kent State University were scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. The Thursday evening ceremony for those receiving doctoral degrees was held in the E. Turner Stump Theatre in the Music and Speech Center, which is located on Theatre Drive. The Saturday ceremony for those receiving master’s and baccalaureate degrees occured in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.

Approximately 1,400 degrees were granted. The commencement ceremonies may be viewed on demand

DOCTORAL COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY - Watch On Demand

Thursday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m.
Location: E. Turner Stump Theatre, Music and Speech Center
Speaker: Dr. Claire Draucker, RN, Distinguished Professor in the College of Nursing. She received her Ph.D. from Kent State in 1988. Dr. Draucker’s research includes counseling adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and violence against women. Draucker’s publications include journal articles, book chapters, reviews and presentations, and she has won university and national honors for both teaching and research. She also has numerous service accomplishments, ranging from university and regional work to the Midwest Nursing Research Society and the American Psychiatric Nursing Association.


MASTER’S AND BACCALAUREATE CEREMONY - Watch On Demand

Saturday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m.
Location: Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MACC)
Speaker: Judith Devine, Senior Associate Athletics Director Emeritus. Devine is a long-time member of the Kent State Athletic Department and a 2003 inductee into the Varsity “K” Athletic Hall of Fame. Considered the matriarch of Kent State Athletics, Devine retired from her post as associate athletic director in 2000 following 31 years in a variety of roles within the department. She came to Kent State as a graduate assistant in 1969 and went on to serve for two seasons (1975-77) as the first head coach of the women’s basketball team in addition to directing the field hockey team from its inception in 1975 through the 1980 campaign. When the men’s and women’s athletic programs were merged in 1975, she was given the responsibilities of assistant director of athletics before being elevated to associate athletic director in 1978. At the time of her retirement, she coordinated financial aid, housing, awards and the academic performance of Kent State’s student-athletes. She also handled compliance and eligibility until 1999.
