Lecture Series Includes U.S. Department of Education Official

Deputy Assistant Secretary for International and Foreign Language Education for the U.S. Department of Education Andre Lewis will be speaking at Kent State University. The College of Education, Health and Human Services’ Gerald H. Read Center for International & Intercultural Education at Kent State University will present Lewis as part of its distinguished lecture series on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Kiva.  

Photo of Andre LewisHis continual perseverance as a public servant enabled him to be the first person in the U.S. Department of Education to hold this high-level position, an illustration of the increasing importance of internationalization in education. In this position, Lewis oversees the implementation of the President Barack Obama’s and U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan’s priorities for international language education and outreach at the K-12 and post-secondary level.

The lecture kicks off the Celebrating College Teaching Conference, which will be held Oct. 28-29 at the Kent Student Center.
