Kent State’s Entrepreneurship Extravaganza, Nov. 5-6Posted Oct, 23, 2009
The fourth annual Entrepreneurship Extravaganza will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5, and Friday, Nov. 6, presented by the Kent State University Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation. The event will include several workshops, panel discussions and speakers discussing various entrepreneurial topics. The program is free and open to the community and to all students.
“This event allows attendees to get a feel for what it’s like to own their own business and provides helpful information for those who are just getting started,” says Julie Messing, director for the Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation. “It’s intended to spark energy and ideas and give people experience and contacts to help them get to the next level. They will walk away with tools and resources to start making things happen.”
A highlight of the schedule is the Michael D. Soloman Speaker Series in Entrepreneurship, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, in the Prentice Hall Classroom, first floor. This year’s topic is “Think Green, Save Green: Where Green Meets Opportunity.”
Attendees will also have the opportunity to compete in running a simulated business on Friday, Nov. 6, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom.
“The simulated business competition is a way for participants to experience the ups and downs of being a business owner and match their business acumen against others,” Messing says.
Also new this year, the workshops and panel discussions will follow three different tracks: Prepare for Launch, for people interested in learning about what to do before starting a business; Launch, for those who want to know what is required to launch a business; and Acceleration, for people who want ideas about taking their business to the next level.
“Because people are in different stages of planning or operating their businesses, we wanted to provide content that would be of value to everyone,” Messing says. “We feel this model accomplishes that goal and everyone who attends will be able to take home some valuable information.”
Door prizes are up for grabs, and all participants will receive a complimentary entrepreneurial tool kit to guide them in launching and accelerating their business. The event is open to the public, but registration is required.
