A Kent State University student, Jessica F. Schenk, 19, of Port Clinton, Ohio, was discovered unconscious in her residence hall this morning and pronounced dead by the Portage County Coroner’s Office. Schenk, a resident of Wright Hall, was a sophomore majoring in physical education. The cause of death has not been determined, but foul play is not suspected.
Residents of Wright Hall were informed of Schenk’s death during a meeting this afternoon with university staff. Grief counselors were present at the meeting and are available to counsel students.
“The entire Kent State community sends its sincerest condolences to Jessica’s family,” said Kent State President Lester A. Lefton. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time.”
