IS Kicks Off Semester with Drop-In Tech Help for Faculty & StudentsPosted Aug. 13, 2012
Information Services is gearing up for the fall semester with dedicated tech help tables for both faculty and students. The sessions, commencing the week before classes begin, allow users to get acclimated to technology at Kent State and receive personalized help directly from the experts.
More than 50 IS staff members and numerous IS students are staffing the tables, wearing black Tech Help t-shirts and displaying signs so they can be easily identified.
Faculty “Technology Tune-Up” Sessions
Technology Tune-Up sessions were organized to help faculty with their Blackboard Learn courses, as well as resolve any password and Internet issues before the start of the semester.
There are 10 opportunities for faculty to drop in for help over a two week period:
• August 20 - August 24, 2012: 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.
• August 27 - August 31, 2012: 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.
The sessions will run concurrently in three locations:
1. Kent Library: 1st Floor Reference Desk
2. Satterfield Hall: Main Entrance (facing Business Administration Building)
3. White Hall: Room 217
Faculty are encouraged to attend a session to ensure they are familiar with Blackboard Learn, which replaces Vista (no longer available to faculty or students after August 25, 2012).
Student “Make the Connection” Tables
Students are invited to “Make the Connection” at tables located in the residence halls, Kent Library and Kent Student Center. IS staff will be on site in 10 locations to help students connect to the Internet, set up mobile devices and answer technology questions.
Student support begins on freshman move-in day (August 23rd) and continues through the first two days of classes.
