Program Description

Full Description

The Computer Technology Endorsement Preparation non-degree program is intended for teachers who plan to teach computer applications or who want to assume technology coordinator positions in a school or at the school district level.

This endorsement must be added to an existing teaching license and cannot be obtained independently as a separate licensure. Students who hold a master’s degree in education or another appropriate field may be able to earn the endorsement with this non-degree program. Students without a master's degree may work toward both a master’s degree and the endorsement by applying to the M.Ed. in Educational Technology, Computer Technology Endorsement Preparation concentration.

Professional Licensure Disclosure

This program is designed to prepare students to sit for applicable licensure or certification in Ohio. If you plan to pursue licensure or certification in a state other than Ohio, please review state educational requirements for licensure or certification and contact information for state licensing boards at Kent State's website for professional licensure disclosure.

  • Minimum 2.750 GPA on a 4.000 point scale (last degree)

Licensure Information

Prior to program completion, the candidate must demonstrate proficiencies in the following areas (including but not limited to): data literacy and analysis; use of research and assessment data; leadership and collaboration; utilizing and supporting appropriate technology for the discipline; and application of professional dispositions, laws and policies, codes of ethics and professional standards appropriate to their field of specialization.

Candidates seeking Ohio teaching licensure are required to pass specific requirements in order to apply for licensure from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE). Students must pass the Ohio Assessment Exam (OAE) to obtain this licensure. Students should consult the Educational Technology program area for specific program requirements and refer to the Ohio Department of Education - Educator Preparation website for more information on assessments specific to licensure type.

The Teaching and Learning with Technology undergraduate certificate provides students with the tools to acquire the knowledge and concrete skills to deploy educational technology theories and strategies in multiple fields while working at educational institutions, communication-related companies, public health entities and other industries.

This certificate is for both students in an education or non-education field. Education students will strengthen their know-how in learning innovations while being exposed to interdisciplinary stimuli and references and expanding their professional and academic horizon. Non-education students will access the most recent best practices in educational technology, applying them in their own field of reference and beyond.

Admissions

Admission Requirements

The university affirmatively strives to provide educational opportunities and access to students with varied backgrounds, those with special talents and adult students who graduated from high school three or more years ago.

First-Year Students on the Kent Campus: First-year admission policy on the Kent Campus is selective. Admission decisions are based upon cumulative grade point average, strength of high school college preparatory curriculum and grade trends. Students not admissible to the Kent Campus may be administratively referred to one of the seven regional campuses to begin their college coursework. First-Year Students on the Regional Campuses: First-year admission to Kent State’s campuses at Ashtabula, East Liverpool, Geauga, Salem, Stark, Trumbull and Tuscarawas, as well as the Twinsburg Academic Center, is open to anyone with a high school diploma or its equivalent. International Students: All international students must provide proof of English language proficiency unless they meet specific exceptions. For more information, visit the admissions website for international students.

Admission Requirements

Admission to a minor is open to students declared in a bachelor’s degree, the A.A.B. or A.A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree (not Individualized Program major). Students declared only in the A.A. or A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree in Individualized Program may not declare a minor. Students may not pursue a minor and a major in the same discipline.

To declare this minor, students must have attempted a minimum 12 credit hours at Kent State and earned a minimum 2.000 overall Kent State GPA. Students who have not attempted 12 credit hours at Kent State will be evaluated for admission based on their high school GPA for new students or transfer GPA for transfer students. Transfer students who have not attempted 12 credit hours of college-level coursework at Kent State and/or other institutions will be evaluated based on both their high school GPA and college GPA.
