Dance '23 - One World

Co-Directors: Ambre Emory-Maier and Barbara Allegra Verlezza

December 1 – 3, 2023

Co-directed by Associate School Director and Dance Division Coordinator Barbara Allegra Verlezza and Assistant Professor of Dance Ambre Emory-Maier, “Dance ’23: One World” runs Dec. 1-3 in E. Turner Stump Theatre, located in the Center for the Performing Arts (1325 Theatre Dr., Kent, OH 44242).

The concert features original choreography by members of Kent State University’s dance faculty and guest artists Micaela Taylor and Michael Uthoff.

This concert is comprised of works by six individual artists, unified as an ensemble on stage. Two works are by internationally renowned choreographers Micaela Taylor and Michael Uthoff. Two dances explore the magic of combining diverse dance genres to present an entirely new creation: Jennifer Black melds the forms of jazz and tap together, while Catherine Meredith and Samuel McIntosh fuse modern and hip-hop dance styles in their new innovative work. Rounding out the concert are two works that focus on relationships, connections, and support choreographed respectively by Catherine Meredith and Barbara Allegra Verlezza.

We believe that the arts illuminate what it means to be human beings and provide ways for us to excavate and discover commonalities within ourselves, our cultures, and each other. We offer gratitude for the fact that dance brings us together, as one group, “One World,” united by our humanity.
