America Reads Tutoring

America Reads logo

The America Reads Tutoring Program at Kent State University is dedicated to fostering literacy and academic excellence among elementary school students. The program is part of a nationwide effort to improve the reading skills of elementary age children. Our trained Kent State student tutors work with children in local elementary schools and community centers to assist them with homework, complete other educational activities, and help them strengthen their overall academic performance.

Through America Reads, Kent State students--who must be eligible to receive Federal Work Study wages as part of their financial aid package to participate--gain valuable experience in education and community service, enhancing their own academic and professional skills.
