Why LGBTQ Studies?

Our minor emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach that challenges students to use critical analytical skills that are crucial to a strong foundation in the Humanities.

This approach empowers students to comprehend and critique the status quo in our society and the insight to unpack the experience, both historical and current, of LGBTQ individuals, helping to better understand the relationship between gender, sexuality and society at large.

Kent State University students from a wide range of academic majors benefit from the enhanced cultural competency offered from LGBTQ critical perspective whether they are students from the College of Nursing or Business in addition to those from the College of Arts and Science.

As our culture shifts and adapts, LGBTQ studies offers vital insight to students who wish to enhance their hire ability through a broader comprehension of the shaping forces behind our historical moment.
