Research participants wanted

The Exercise Science program is seeking volunteers to participate in a study titled, “Understanding psychological impacts of an interactive, non-interactive, and storytelling gamified fitness app in older adults: A mixed methods approach.”

To be a participant in this study, you need to be between the ages of 65-85 years, own a smartphone (a cell phone that can download and use apps), have an email address, be physically active by the definition of accumulating at least 60-minutes per week of aerobic activity (like walking), and have no medical conditions that impact walking behaviors.

Participants must attend one, in-person visit at the MACC Annex on the Kent Campus that will last about an hour.

This study will have participants download three different gamified apps on your phone and use one app each week for at least one hour. A gamified fitness app is like a video game on your phone that encourages physical activity. You will receive prompts sent to your phone three times a day with the link to a survey. At the end of the week, you will receive an email containing an additional survey to complete. After using all three apps, participants will complete a virtual interview and wear a Fitbit (not when bathing or sleeping) provided for use throughout the duration of this study.

This study has a total time commitment of six hours over a period of four weeks; however, only one hour will be in-person.
