
The Higher Education Administration program is proud to announce Gregory L. King, M.Ed. ’93, as the recipient of the 2023-24 Alumni Award. The award recognizes program alumni who have achieved a noteworthy and accomplished career in the field of higher education.
King, a native of Bedford, Ohio, is the 14th president of the University of Mount Union. King graduated from Mount Union in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration and sport management. He joined the staff at Mount Union that same year as the institution’s first intern of the Wayne Manzilla Diversity Internship program. King went on to earn a Master of Education in higher education administration from Kent State University in 1993. Most recently, he completed the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) Institute for Leadership and Governance in Higher Education and Harvard’s Seminar for New Presidents.
For more than 30 years, King has worked for Mount Union in positions of increasing responsibility in areas ranging from student affairs and recruitment to diversity and advancement. He started in an entry-level position as an admission counselor and worked his way up to a member of the administrative leadership team, allowing him to have a 360-degree view of a small private college.
During his tenure as vice president for advancement from 2008-2023, Mount Union successfully completed and exceeded three fundraising campaigns totaling more than $155 million. King also served as interim vice president for enrollment services with a focus on rebuilding the admission team and stabilizing enrollment. A longtime member of the Alliance community, King currently serves on the boards of the Alliance Area Development, Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and Stark Economic Development Board. He and his wife, Callie, M.A. ’13, also a Mount Union and Kent State alumna, reside in Alliance, Ohio.
