Alicia and John Pieper Endowed Scholarship

This award was established in 2008 to support Kent State University students majoring in Human Development & Family Studies with a preference for those taking classes at or transferring from the Stark Campus. This award is intended to encourage students who have demonstrated the capacity to achieve educational and professional goals, the motivation to achieve these goals, and the initiative to seek opportunities to further their progress. Certificate will be presented along with a $500 scholarship.

Recipients shall be selected on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Individual's motivation, ability, and potential
  • Demonstrated leadership on campus and in the community
  • Must be majoring in Human Development and Family Studies
  • Preference for students taking coursework at or transferring from the Stark Campus
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0
  • Recipients may reapply

Submit application between December 1 and February 14

Doris Irmiter Graduate Scholarship for HDFS

This $500 scholarship is intended to support graduate study in Human Development and Family Studies.

This scholarship was established in 2010 to provide assistance to graduate students in the field of Human Development and Family Studies. One award will be made annually to a student enrolled in the M.A. program in HDFS. The award will be $500.

Criteria:

  • Enrolled in the M.A. program in HDFS
  • Completed at least 6 semester hours of graduate coursework
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.5 in graduate coursework
  • Service and/or employment record related to Human Development and Family Studies
  • Written statement of professional goals

Applications are due by February 15.

Dorothy Fruit Gerontology Student Scholarship

This award was established in 1993 to recognize Dorothy Fruit, former Director of the School of Family and Consumer Studies. In 1998 Ruth Beck, mother of Dorothy Fruit, endowed this scholarship. The scholarship recognizes an outstanding junior majoring in HDFS with a concentration in Gerontology. One $500 scholarship will be awarded.

The criteria are as follows:

  • Human Development & Family Studies Major with a Gerontology concentration
  • Junior standing
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0
  • Work experience and/or service related to gerontology

Dorothy and James Fruit Human Development and Family Studies Student Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Junior majoring in Human Development & Family Studies
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0
  • Service related to Human Development & Family Studies

Mary E. Keller Scholarship for Human Development & Family Studies

Criteria:

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Sophomore standing with at least 60 hours remaining before graduation OR Junior standing with at least 30 hours remaining before graduation
  • Current involvement in extracurricular activities
