    Bracelets with JOANN

    • JOANN is excited to participate in this year’s KSU Kickoff! They will be hiding friendship bracelets with words of encouragement around campus all day.
    • Head out early to find one, plus a little gift to help you make more and spread good vibes! Over 100 bracelets will be hidden for you to find around campus!
    • JOANN is also proud to sponsor wellness and service events all day with bracelet-making stations at each booth filled with Kent State University colors to show your school spirit.
    • Events that will have these stations include: Day of Service (12-2 p.m. at The Commons), Open Ice Skating (1-5 p.m. at the Ice Arena), DeWeese Health Center Open House and Scavenger Hunt (1-5 p.m. at the Health Center), and the RecWellcome Back Party and Dive-In Movie (5-10 p.m. at the Rec Center).     Kayaking and Tubing with Adventure Center

    • The Adventure Center will be offering free kayak lessons and river tubing at Tannery Park (near the Farmer’s Market).
    • Learn kayaking skills or take a leisurely float down the historic and beautiful Cuyahoga River on an inflatable tube.
    • Friendly Adventure Center staff will be there to assist you. Enclosed shoes or sandals with a back strap are required.
    • 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. - Tannery Park- downtown Kent (100 Stow Rd.)

    Haymaker Farmers’ Market Trip with the Kent State of Well-Being

    • Did you know Portage county’s oldest producer’s only farmers market is right in your backyard?!
    • Take a free trolley, scoot, bike or walk downtown to shop locally with the Kent State of Well-being at the Haymaker Farmers' Market.
    • Stock up on yummy prepared foods, locally grown fruits and veggies, fresh cut flowers, roasted coffee, handmade soaps, art and more!
    • Walk around to learn about the local farming community and meet friendly local makers. Free shopping bags to carry your great finds while supplies last!
    • 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. - Meet us at our blue and gold Well Hut tent between Korb and Wright Hall to hop on the free trolley, get a free Spin bike and scooter lesson or go on a guided walk downtown.

    Kent State Day of Service Excursion: River Cleanup

    • Meet new people, make a difference, and kayak the Cuyahoga!
    • Join other new students as we board kayaks for a few hours and remove litter from the Cuyahoga River in downtown Kent.
    • Transportation and safety equipment will be provided.
    • 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Meet at 975 Lester Lefton Esplanade, just outside the Center for Undergraduate Excellence

    Kent State Day of Service Excursion: Gardening at Walls Elementary Community Garden

    • Do you love nature, gardens, plants, and making new connections? Join other new students as we tend to the Walls Elementary School Community Garden, run by the non-profit Let's Grow Together.
    • All supplies and training will be provided, along with transportation.
    • Please dress appropriately for the weather and for gardening work, and be sure to bring a water bottle.
    • Participants will also learn about the other Let's Grow Together-managed community gardens in the area and opportunities to volunteer with LGT throughout the year.

    Kent State Day of Service Excursion: Stormwater Drain Marking Project

    • Join Community Engaged Learning in a special "Excursion" service activity and help educate the campus community about water quality!
    • Apply “no dumping, drains to stream” stickers to stormwater drains on campus, and help protect water quality and raise awareness that dumping trash, debris, or hazardous waste contributes to pollution and endangers wildlife!
    • All supplies and training demo provided.
    • Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring water bottle if needed.
    • There will also be opportunities to learn about other sustainability features on campus.
    • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. - (Meet in Risman Plaza, between the Kent Student Center and the Library, near the Black Squirrel statue

    Kent State Day of Service

    • Community Engaged Learning (CEL) will hold its annual Kent State Day of Service.  
    • New students, their families, and other members of the campus community can browse a selection of service projects and choose one or a few to work on.
    • Lunch and music will be provided, and participants will learn about CEL's various non-profit organization partners while making a difference in our community. 
    • Service projects will include painting rain barrels the university will use to collect rain water, making mental health journals for the university’s counseling center, writing letters of encouragement for Akron Children’s Hospital and educators at Kent City Schools, and creating placemats for residents of Kentway Apartments, among others.

    • Join the College of Public Health for a barbeque lunch to welcome students back to campus.
    • First year students, faculty, staff, current students, and alumni are welcome.

    Open Skating at the Ice Arena

    • Stop by the Ice Arena to enjoy some ice skating on the main rink.
    • Skates will be available to rent at no charge on a first-come, first-serve basis.

    DeWeese Open House and Scavenger Hunt

    • Students will have an opportunity to visit the DeWeese Health Center and complete a scavenger hunt of our facility.

    Kent State Volleyball vs. Findlay

    • A new academic school year is upon us! Kick off the new semester by cheering on Kent State Volleyball.

    RecWellcome Back Party

    • Come experience lots of games, activities, prizes and fun!
    • Activities include food trucks, rappelling from the indoor track, archery, rock climbing, sand volleyball, basketball, DJ patio party and more!
    • Tours and free equipment orientations will also be available to help you become familiar with the SRWC.
    • Participants will receive a passport to use for chances to win prizes including t-shirts, water bottles, hammocks, gift certificates and more!

    Dive-In Movie: “The Little Mermaid” 2023

    • Join us for an evening of fun at the RecWellcome Back Dive-in Movie at the SRWC Natatorium.
    • Attendance limited to the first 400 students
    • Immerse yourself in an unforgettable experience as we present the newly released Disney movie “The Little Mermaid.”
    • You will not want to miss the excitement as we project the movie, creating a magical atmosphere in the water.
    • Swim, float, and relax while enjoying this box office hit! Fantastic snacks will be available to add to the fun.
