Student Paper Awards

Demonstrating their knowledge and creativity in their chosen areas of study, students in the iSchool submit papers in the spring. Winners are chosen and up to five awards of $1,000 each are given to the papers judged best.

  • Josie Cotton

    Josie Cotton

    Josie completed her M.L.I.S. degree in August 2023 and now works as the User Experience Librarian at the main library at Case Western Reserve University. Her first library job was in high school, when she worked as a page at the Kent Free Library, and she is thrilled to be a librarian now.

  • Odessa Jackson

    Odessa Jackson

    Odessa Jackson is a disabled, queer and just kind of weird MLIS student living in Kent, Ohio. In the last few semesters of her degree, Odessa is completing her thesis on quiet and sensory spaces for autistic patrons in public libraries as she is hoping to aid in the advancement of library services for people with disabilities.

    Julie Loop

    Julie Loop knew she wanted to be a librarian after working at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum at Ohio State University. Her projects with the oversized comic books and original comic art introduced her to cataloging and technical services in libraries.

    Selina Tremmel

    My name is Selina Tremmel, and I live in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I am in my final semester at Kent State University majoring in Health Informatics, and I plan to graduate in May 2024.
