Judy Wakabayashi

After working as a professional translator in Japan, Judy Wakabayashi received her Ph.D. from the University of Queensland in 1993. She taught Japanese-English translation at the graduate level in Australia before moving to Kent State University. Her research interests include Japanese studies, the history of translation in Japan, translation theory, and the pedagogy of translation. Dr Wakabayashi currently teaches graduate courses in Japanese-English translation and translation history. Accredited as an Advanced Translator (Japanese-English) by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters in Australia, Dr Wakabayashi is the co-editor of Asian Translation Traditions (2005),  Decentering Translation Studies: India and Beyond (2009), Translation and Translation Studies in the Japanese Context (2012), Translating and Interpreting in Korean Contexts: Engaging with Asian and Western Others (2019), author of numerous articles and chapters on translation, and translator of several non-fiction books.
