Before students dive into classes, we welcome them to campus for KSU Kickoff!
KSU Kickoff is a multi-day welcome celebration that takes place Aug. 14-17 where students will engage in activities and events that will familiarize them with the Kent State University community, faculty and staff; make new friends; and prepare them to start the fall 2025 semester on the right foot.
While students can choose from an array of events to attend based on their personal interests, there are a few events that are required to ensure that students are receiving some key instructions and information, including:
- KSU Kickoff Check-in (Aug. 14) for residential students
- KSU Kickoff Check-in (Aug. 15) for commuter students
- Dean’s Welcome (Aug. 15)
- Convocation (Aug. 15)
- First-Year Lunch (Aug. 15)
- First Flashes 101 Class (Aug. 15)
- Flashes First Friday (Aug. 15)
- KSU Kickoff Check-in (Aug. 17) for transfer students
- Blastoff (Aug. 17)
Two events to highlight are Flashes First Friday and Blastoff:
- Flashes First Friday will take place in award-winning downtown Kent. Students will be able to explore all downtown has to offer, including locally-owned restaurants, coffee shops, gift shops and more, and includes fun giveaways and live music!
- Blastoff is regarded as one of the best connection events on the Kickoff schedule. This event will be on the Risman Plaza and the Student Green in front of the Kent Student Center. There will be games, food, giveaways and a free concert! Students will be able to talk to 250+ student organizations, campus departments and community partners.

We are looking forward to helping your student get connected to people, programs and resources from the moment they step on campus!
