Kent State Voted Best College Dining Experience

Kent State University recently earned the top spot on College Rank’s list of the 50 Best College Dining Experiences. Judging criteria included versatility of menu options, support for nutrition and wellness, sustainability efforts and accessibility for those with special dietary needs.

College Rank is an independent organization that aims to provide unbiased rankings of academic institutions in a multitude of categories. Its mission is to make it easier for students and parents to identify the best college for their individual needs and preferences.

In selecting Kent State for the top position, College Rank cited the abundance of vegetarian and vegan dining options available, as well as its unique Veggie-A-Go-Go program, which allows students to place call-ahead takeout orders for vegan and vegetarian items. The university also offers a similar program in its Prentice Café for those seeking gluten-free options.

Students, faculty and staff at Kent State enjoy a wide variety of dining options, including plenty of dishes that support health and wellness or meet special dietary needs. For example, the Simple Servings station in Eastway Café features entrées and side dishes that are free of seven of the eight most common allergens, making it easy for students with allergies to find appropriate dining options.

In addition, Dining Services is fully committed to supporting the university’s recently launched efforts to promote health and wellness at all levels of the campus community. Sodexo, the university’s food service provider, offers extensive health and wellness resources, including its award-winning Mindful program, which emphasizes healthy cooking techniques that maximize flavor while minimizing calories, fat and sodium. A registered dietician also is available at Kent State to offer guidance and answer questions regarding nutrition.
