Zips Electric Racing is a group of college students who design, build, and compete with an electric Formula One style racecar. They compete in the USA and in Canada against other universities from across the world. They are governed by a set of rules put out by FSAE, and their racecar is checked for compliance to these rules by a rigorous technical inspection before being allowed to race at competition. They placed 6th overall at the Formula North Competition in Barrie and 5th overall in Lincoln, placing 2nd in Energy Efficiency at this competition. The 2019 car (ZER-19) weighs 520 lbs and outputs 87 horsepower. It goes from 0 - 60 mph in 5.17 seconds and has a top speed of 90 mph.  It runs on 432 lithium-ion batteries and has safety features including front and side crumple zones to absorb impact
