At Kent State University, we value the important role that parents and families play in the success of their students.
Parents and Families Engagement provides helpful resources, valuable connections and important information that bolster partnerships between family members and Kent State University. There are several ways in which parents and families can become involved and develop their own relationship with Kent State. One way is to consider serving as a member of the Flashes Parents and Families Council.
What does the Flashes Parents and Families Council do?
This council serves as a stakeholder group working to enhance the university experience and help build sustaining relationships between parents, students and Kent State. The council supports the mission and goals of Kent State by promoting effective working partnerships, volunteer opportunities and participation in informational, social recruitment programs, which help families foster a positive connection to the university.
The council is comprised of parents and family members of Kent State undergraduates who:
- Contribute to shaping the parent and family experience at Kent State as members of the council.
- Foster communication between the Division of Student Affairs and Kent State families.
- Provide programmatic support by serving as volunteers at on-campus events, such as Parents and Families Appreciation Week and Parents and Families Orientation.
- Develop new ideas and suggestions for bettering parent and family education, programs and services.
Members of the Flashes Parents and Families Council will have an opportunity to:
- Meet and become familiar with university administrators and learn more about Kent State programs and services.
- Connect and work with other Kent State families.
- Implement programs and initiatives that are of importance to parents and families.
- Promote and participate in Parents and Families Engagement sponsored events, such as Parents and Families Appreciation Weekend.
More information regarding the council and how to apply will be available during Destination Kent State (DKS), New Student Orientation in the summer. You can also visit the Flashes Parents and Families Council website for more information.
