Biography

Corrie Slawson’s work is a result of visual consideration along her daily commute around Cleveland, and during travels abroad. Using her own photography as a journalistic survey of properties and land, she builds city/landscapes that underscore development patterns of population loss and land-use. The work emerges through layers of printmaking, drawing and painting.

Slawson’s work has been exhibited in the US and internationally, including at MOCA Cleveland, The Toledo Museum of Art. Akron Art Museum, Centro Cultural de Tijuana, SPACES and The Sculpture Center. Her public projects include a series of sculptural historical markers in the Warehouse District, and 30 foot mural at the Driving Park branch library in Columbus. Corrie received an individual artist excellence grant from the Ohio Arts Council in 2011. International opportunities include residencies in Tijuana, Mexico, and Dresden, Germany. She earned her BFA at Parsons School of Design (NY) and her MFA at Kent State University. Corrie was Grants Director and Archivist at Zygote Press for seven years and is Adjunct Faculty at the Kent State School of Art and Cleveland Institute of Art. Her work is represented by Shaheen Modern and Contemporary Gallery in downtown Cleveland.
