B.F.A. Studio Art alumni, Griffin Allman joined the Studio Break Podcast to talk about his mixed media assemblages that combine a variety of materials and approaches of mark making. He spoke about the influence of growing up in Ohio during the rise of modern technology on how he developed an artistic style.
Allman is an artist and art educator, currently teaching studio art at Georgia College & State University. Allman received his B.F.A. in Studio Art and his B.A. in Art Education from Kent State University in 2021, he then went on to earn his M.F.A. with a concentration in Painting and Drawing from the University of Tennessee in 2024. Allman has exhibited work nationwide, including but not limited to First Street Gallery in New York City, Eastern Michigan University and the Candoro Marble Building.
Allman’s artistic practice focuses on “creating drawings, paintings and assemblages that highlight the daily collection, organization and categorization of marks. Rooted in themes of habit, ritual and hyper fixation, the work serves as both an iterative and psychological archive and the compulsive urge to categorize and shape our perception of the world and of ourselves.” Allman builds collections that are exercises in focus and containment, where the routine of mark-making becomes a ritualized act of assigning meaning and presence.
Allman’s is currently part of a two-person exhibition with Marie B. Gauthiez, “Withholding” open at Studio Break Gallery in West Chicago through Dec. 6. Additionally, Allman is currently featured in the New Faculty Exhibition at Georgia College & State University.
