Down Under: Ecology and Evolution in Australia

This course will immerse students in the “land down under” from the perspectives of ecological diversity, conservation, and the evolution of the Australian flora and fauna.

Japan
Study Abroad: Journey to Japan – Past and Present
AS 30189
This course will allow students to travel to Japan and learn important aspects of its culture and history. Students will spend four days in Tokyo, four days in Kyoto and two days in Osaka and Nara. Through reading various Japanese texts, students will gain insights into the Japanese language, literature, and culture. Although knowledge in Japanese will be a great advantage, non-Japanese speakers are invited to also take the course since all of the presentations and readings will be in English

Salamanca
Spanish Language and Culture Immersion in Salamanca

This course, offered through KSU, comprises the evening hours and will usually vary from 1 to 3 hours (although on some occasions they will extend to 5-6 hours when we have more than one activity). Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings will begin with a one-hour lecture on Spanish art, culture, or history. After the lecture, we will move on to other activities listed on the itinerary, including visiting museum, archeological sites, and attending classes on Spanish cooking, dance, or guitar making offered by guest speakers. Students will be required to complete predeparture assignments as well as assignments while in Spain. Students will also spend 3 hours each weekday morning at Mester language academy where they will earn three KSU transfer credits accredited by and transferred from La Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca.

Amsterdam
Amsterdam: Law, Politics, and Policy in the Netherlands

This faculty-led study away program will introduce student to law, politics, and public policy in The Netherlands. In addition to visiting important political, historical, and cultural sites in Amsterdam, the class will visit The Hague and the International Criminal Court.

Costa Rica
Tropical Field Biology and Conservation

The course will follow the model pioneered by the Organization for Tropical Studies for teaching courses in tropical biology. The model emphasizes the use of field work to address specific issues in tropical ecology. The students are responsible for the design and collection of data in field projects under the supervision of participating faculty. The students are also expected to conduct data analysis and to present their results and conclusions to their classmates. Finally, students are also expected to complete a written report of each of the four project they will conduct in Costa Rica. These reports should follow the format of a scientific article written for Biotropica –The journal of tropical biology and Conservation. The course also offers the opportunity to learn about the diversity of ecosystems found in the tropics, as major tropical habitats will be visited. Students will observe the characteristics of tropical rain forests, tropical seasonally dry forests, mangrove forest, coral reef, coastal ecosystems, and montane forests, as well as the natural history of plants and animals that inhabit them.
