Kent State University's School of Emerging Media and Technology is a cutting-edge interdisciplinary school designed to train tomorrow's digital leaders. With an emphasis on teamwork, hands-on learning and collaboration across disciplines, we are equipping our students with the technical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills they will need to design and create cutting-edge solutions for an evolving world.
Our students are exposed to a broad range of digital technologies used widely by professions and organizations. Our coursework integrates insights from computer science, computer information systems, computer technology, library information science, visual communication design, journalism, communication studies and instructional technology.

Working in interdisciplinary teams with real-world clients is a learning experience many students value. Students in the Interdisciplinary Projects course are having a helping hand in making a local community safer, developing a tool that can help alert emergency responders to the needs of community members before arriving at the scene.

Society is driven, in part, by digital technology — and the skills used in these fast-paced digital systems require nimble and up-to-date skill sets. To prepare students for an ever-changing world, the School of Emerging Media and Technology (EMAT) offers a seminar course with a rotating list of timely topics. During the Spring 2024 semester, students have been exploring the ethics of artificial intelligence in "Seminar: Ethics and Emerging Technologies."
Kent State University graduate student Angelique Wong’s designs were judged the best in show at “Haute for the House,” a runway show the School of Fashion staged as part of a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Ohio.
