Kent State to Honor Veterans on Nov. 9

Kent State University will hold its annual Veterans Day observance on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Kent Student Center Kiva.

The program, Honoring All Who Serve, will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs on the Student Green at Risman Plaza at 10:30 a.m., remarks from Kent State President Beverly Warren and guest speaker Kevin Lacz. Mr. Lacz is a decorated former U.S. Navy SEAL and author of The New York Times best-selling memoir “The Last Punisher.” He is also the co-star of the blockbuster movie “American Sniper” starring Bradley Cooper.

All are invited to come and pay tribute to America’s veterans. A special invitation is extended to Kent State faculty, staff, students and community members who are veterans, active service members or who have family members in the military. Free parking will be available in the Kent Student Center visitor parking lot for event attendees.

A reception will follow the brief program in the Kent Student Center Kiva lobby.

Mr. Lacz also will speak Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom about the importance of taking risks. A book signing will follow. This speech is sponsored by Kent State’s Division of Student Affairs and the Center for Adult and Veteran Services.
