Holiday Calendar
The university observes the following holidays:
- New Year’s Day, January 1
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day, 3rd Monday In January
- President's Day, 3rd Monday in February (movable holiday usually observed contiguous with Christmas Day)
- Memorial Day, last Monday in May
- Juneteenth, June 19
- Independence Day, July 4
- Labor Day, 1st Monday in September
- Columbus Day, 2nd Monday in October (movable holiday usually observed the day after Thanksgiving)
- Veterans' Day, November 11
- Thanksgiving Day, 4th Thursday of November
- Christmas Day, December 25
Holidays that occur on Saturday are observed the preceding Friday. Holidays that occur on Sunday are observed on the following Monday. Specific observance dates are announced in the official university calendar.

The religious observance calendar is meant to serve as a scheduling guide. It lists significant holidays from the five largest global faith traditions. However, it is not comprehensive and students may choose to observe a holiday from any tradition not included on the calendar. AFSCME
Not Working
- If an employee’s work schedule is other than Monday through Friday, he/she will receive holiday pay for any holiday observed on his/her day off regardless of the day of the week on which it is observed.
- An employee will not be paid for the holiday if it occurs during a period when an employee is on leave without pay or in temporary layoff status.
- If a holiday occurs during a period of paid sick leave, the employee will be considered as having been off duty and will draw his/her normal pay, without being charged for sick leave.
- Only an employee who is in pay status on his/her normal day immediately preceding a holiday will be considered entitled to holiday pay.
- An employee who is absent without leave on the workday immediately preceding a holiday will be denied holiday pay.
- A part-time employee will receive holiday pay for that portion of a holiday that he/she would have been scheduled to work.
If Working
- When an employee who is eligible for overtime pay is required to work on a day observed as a holiday, the employee will be entitled to pay for such time worked at one and one-half (1 ½) time his/her total hourly rate of pay, in addition to his/her regular holiday pay.

Faculty
Full- and part-time faculty members are salaried employees and do not receive additional pay for holidays. Flight instructors who are paid an hourly rate receive pay for hours worked.

Unrepresented Staff
- If a holiday occurs during a period of paid or sick vacation leave, the employee will receive holiday pay and will not be charged for sick leave or vacation.
- An employee must be in active pay status for the entire scheduled workday immediately before the holiday to receive holiday pay.
- If a full-time employee is scheduled to work 10-hour days, and the holiday falls on their schedule workday, the employee will receive 10 hours of holiday pay.
Hourly Employees (not working)
- Full-time – Is automatically entitled to holiday pay
- Part-time – Is entitled to holiday pay for the number of hours for which they would have been scheduled to work
- Part-time temporary employees and intermittent employees are entitled to holiday pay for the number of hours they are normally scheduled to work.
Hourly Employees (required to work the holiday)
- If a full-time employee is required to work on a holiday, then he/she receives eight (8) hours of holiday pay plus time and one-half (1½) for actual hours worked.
- If a part-time employee is required to work on a holiday then he/she receives the normal hours worked as holiday pay, plus time and one-half (1½) for the actual hours worked.
Salaried Employees (not working)
- Employee will automatically receive holiday pay.
Salaried Employees (required to work)
- If a salaried employee is required to work on a holiday, then he/she may take comparable time off at a later date. This day must be mutually agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
- Under no circumstance is a salaried employee allowed to receive additional pay for working on a holiday

Student Employees
Not working – not eligible for holiday pay
If Working
- Student Employees may be asked to work a holiday; however, it cannot be required of them.
- If a Student Employee does work a holiday, then they will be paid for the hours worked. The unit/supervisor determines if the Student Employee will receive pay in addition to the hours worked. If the unit/supervisor wishes to pay an additional one and one half (1 ½) for the hours worked the supervisor needs to work with the Payroll Department to achieve this.
