Our Financial Needs (2)

Planetarium

We want to keep the planetarium as a resource to the community available to all that wish to enjoy it without having to charge for admission.  Our students and faculty donate generous amounts of time to provide shows for everyone, However, there are financial needs to maintain and improve the planetarium.

Immediate Needs:

Our planetarium projector is in need of a good tune-up and repair some functions that are not working or working intermittently.  Our goal is to have them during the Summer of 2025 when we do not need to use the Planetarium room as a classroom.  The total cost of the repairs/tune-up will be about $20,000. Additional funds raised above the amount needed will be used for the continued maintenance of the planetarium and observatory.

Long-Term Needs:

We have had a planetarium at Kent State for almost 60 years and we wish to lay the groundwork for another sixty years.  To that end, we have a capital campaign to raise money for a significant overhaul of the planetarium, updating the planetarium dome and projection system. To donate to this fund, please click here.

Observatory

In the process of bringing the observatory back online, we are incurring small expenses replacing some missing or broken equipment.  If you are interested in helping us bring the observatory back online financially, you can make a donation here.
